Food Collection 19th to 21st November

23rd November 2020

Thanks to everyone who donated at the Tesco food collection this year. Also many thanks to the community champions both in Welshpool & Newtown stores, we really appreciate the work you did.

How the Food Collection works

This time of year can be very difficult for families and individuals who are already managing on extremely tight budgets.

The Food Collection is a partnership between Tesco, the Trussell Trust, and FareShare. For three days each year, in the lead-up to Christmas, Tesco organises and hosts a nationwide drive to encourage customers to buy an extra item or two of food when they shop in store and donate it at the collection point on their way out. The food donated is used by the charities to support people who are struggling to put food on the table.

Each participating Trussell Trust food bank is partnered with a local Tesco store and works with volunteers and Tesco staff, greeting shoppers on their way in to store and handing out shopping lists, showing items that the food bank needs most.

In Tesco Express stores the Food Collection starts before the main collection, on Monday 16th November, with unattended food collection points available for customers to make their donations.

ALL food donated is used locally and is an invaluable boost to food banks’ stocks at a time of year that is always extremely busy and when demand for emergency food is high.

Tesco generously tops up customer food donations, by making a financial contribution equivalent to 20% of the value of the food. So, by getting involved, you will not only help provide vital food for people experiencing crisis, but the top-up funding will help Trussell Trust food banks provide people with further support.

We are thrilled that the UK’s largest supermarket shares our vision that no one should go hungry, and is working together with us and FareShare to empower local communities to fight poverty.
